About the shop

The Shop Behind Every Build

We restore classic Mustangs the way we'd want our own done: honestly, thoroughly, and with the receipts to prove it.

Mustang Underground is a classic Ford Mustang restoration shop. We bring first-generation cars from 1964½ to 1973 and Fox-body 5.0s from 1979 to 1993 back to life, from driver-grade refreshes to nut-and-bolt frame-off builds and modern restomods.

We do the whole car, under one roof

A lot of shops farm out the hard parts. We don't. The metalwork, the paint, the engine, and the interior all happen here, with our own hands. That keeps the quality consistent, the schedule under our control, and the cost honest, because nothing is marked up through a middleman or lost in a handoff between three different shops.

You always know what's happening to your car

The worst restoration stories are all the same: a car that disappears into a shop for years with no updates and a bill that keeps climbing. We built our process to be the opposite. We put the scope and cost in writing before we start, we photograph the work at every stage, and we tell you before we spend money you didn't approve. When your car is done, that documentation is yours, and it's part of what makes the car worth more.

Straight talk, every time

If a frame-off doesn't make sense for your car, we'll say so. If a driver-grade refresh gets you 90 percent of the way for a third of the price, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather build the right car for you than the biggest invoice for us. That's how you end up with customers who come back and send their friends.

About the shop

Where is Mustang Underground located?

We're based at 123 Mustang Lane, Detroit, MI, and we restore Mustangs for owners across all 50 states with enclosed pickup and delivery. Shop visits are welcome by appointment.

Do you work on cars for out-of-state owners?

Yes, regularly. We arrange enclosed transport, keep you updated with photos at every stage, and deliver the finished car to your door. Plenty of our builds never live in our state at all.

What makes your restorations different?

Three things: we do the metal, paint, engine, and interior in-house so nothing gets lost in a handoff, we document every stage so you always know what was done, and we tell you the truth about scope and cost before any work starts.
